Whether you enjoy meat dominant meals, or need more vegetables or grains, the mailer will continue to work for you.

In July, I wrote an article for Nourished Magazine about ideas to get nutrient dense foods into children. You can view that article here. One of the things I am focusing on right now is sneaking organ meats into ground meat to hide it. In some places, you can find this meat mix labeled as ‘pet food mix’ when you’re buying directly from farmers. It’s normally also cheaper than plain grass-fed ground beef, if you can find it. Don’t let the name put you off, it’s full of goodness and in the vast majority of cases, it’s human-grade meat. Ask your farmer for the details of which organs it contains and in what percentages. If you grind it yourself, I’ve found that pulsing small chunks of partially frozen liver in the food processor works best for grinding the liver. You can also grate it.You can include liver, kidney, spleen, sweetbreads (thymus) and other organs in the ground meat. I prefer a mix of 3-4 parts ground beef to one part in total of the ground organs.Giblet gravy is another popular way of getting organ meats into kids. In fact, growing up it was the only organ meat I ever knowingly had, since I never read the labels on processed meat products. LOL When you roast a whole chicken, finely chop the gizzard and liver, saute it and put it in with the gravy you make from the pan drippings.Pate is a wonderful way to get liver into children. The quick pate in our Recipe Archive is very mild, and children love it.What things do you do to get organ meats into your children? I’d love to hear your feedback and ideas.

Cooking Traditional Foods is a website and forum at cookingtf.com that is dedicated to helping you feed your family nutrient dense foods. Our forum at tfrecipes.com is free to join and participate in, and we have a Recipe Archive and Menu Mailer available for purchase. CTF specializes in nutrient dense meals that appeal to children. Nutrient dense meals are no good if your family will not eat them, so we present foods in a familiar way without compromising the nutrition your children need. Our menus regularly include hidden liver and vegetables and other nutrient dense foods presented in a way that children will eat, and we focus on low-sugar desserts, many with hidden vegetables. See what Menu Mailer subscribers are saying on our testimonial page. All of the recipes on the forum and menu mailer are nutrient dense, and every meal has the option of being gluten and casein free for those who have food allergies. KerryAnn has been doing traditional foods for six years and is a skilled cook and baker in both gluten-containing and gluten-free foods. KerryAnn’s family has been gluten and casein free for two years due to celiac disease.CTF can help you if you are in a slump and need nutrient dense ideas to feed your family, if you’re looking to find other mothers to converse with, or are looking for information and support on the traditional foods lifestyle. Our menu mailer and recipe archive can help you see what a traditional foods lifestyle is about, and help you by providing all of the planning and recipes if you are pressed for time or forget to do the advanced preparation required for traditional foods. Each issue contains your menu, shopping list, preparation reminder schedule, and recipes for six dinners and one dessert. We have many subscribers who are using the mailer as a way to learn how to cook, how to prepare a nutrient dense diet, or are just going gluten and casein free and need help learning the lifestyle and how to cook without familiar ingredients. We have Menu Mailer subscriptions in both American and Australian versions for as little as four weeks, and back issues are available. You can view a sample mailer on the forum. Subscription information for the American Mailer is here and the Australian Mailer is here. The Recipe Archive is available in 6 or 12-month subscriptions.
